چکیده

A 22-year-old woman with a history of transient ischemic attack 2 weeks earlier presented with dyspnea on exertion. Cardiac auscultation revealed only an apical mid-diastolic murmur. Her electrocardiogram indicated atrial fibrillation. Transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE) showed significant rheumatic mitral stenosis (mitral valve area: 1.3 cm2) and mobile homogeneous mass in the left atrium (Fig. 1, Video 1). Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) was performed to discriminate between myxoma and thrombus. 2-D and 3-D TEE revealed highly mobile homogeneous pedunculated mass measuring 28x25 mm arising from the anterior interatrial septum (Fig. 2, Video 2, 3). Accordingly, left atrial myxoma was strongly suspected. Ultimately, the patient was referred to cardiovascular surgery. Mass excision and mitral valve replacement were performed successfully. Mass histopathology was compatible with myxoma (Fig. 3). Postoperative course was uneventful. Unusual coexistence of atrial myxoma and mitral stenosis

Atrial Myxomas : Special Emphasis on 504 Unusual Manifestations *

From January 1959 to January 1969, eight patients with atrial myxoma were seen at Emory University and Grady Memorial hospitals. Five patients had symptoms and signs compatible with mitral stenosis, three of whom underwent surgery with an incorrect preoperative diagnosis of mitral stenosis. Two myxomas were found at autopsy, one in a patient who died of acute myocardial infarction. One patient ...

Giant left atrial myxoma mimicking severe mitral valve stenosis and severe pulmonary hypertension

We report a case of giant left atrial myxoma in a young patient with clinical manifestation as congestive heart failure attributable to severe mitral valve stenosis. An early clinical and echocardiographic diagnosis was performed and the patient had an optimal outcome with surgery treatment.

Atrial Myxoma Mimicking Mitral Stenosis

Myxoma is the most common primary cardiac tumor and is usually located in the left atrium. Clinical manifestation relies in large part on the size, location, and architecture of the tumor. There are many reports in the literature of cardiac myxomas causing syncope, embolism, even myocardial infarction. We present a rare case of a patient who underwent urgent surgical resection of a large left a...

A patient with rheumatic mitral stenosis and an atrial myxoma.

A 34-year-old woman with exertional dyspnoea and clinical diagnosis of mitral stenosis underwent echocardiographic evaluation. Moderate to severe rheumatic mitral stenosis was confirmed but an unsuspected mass lesion in the dilated left atrium attached to inter-atrial septum in fossa ovalis region was found. Although the attachment was in favour of myxoma, it was difficult to differentiate with...

Giant atrial myxoma mimicking severe mitral stenosis in young patient.

The echocardiogram of a twenty-year-old man, previously healthy, suffering from paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea and fatigue after moderate exertion that intensified over a period of about ten days, showed the left atrium myxoma working as severe mitral stenosis.
